Extracurricular Activities
Clubs
Clubs are an integral part of life at OFS. Clubs are a great way
for teachers and parents to share their hobbies and talents, and a wonderful
opportunity for students to try new things. OFS has a 45 minute
“Club Period” every Friday morning so that all students
can participate in Clubs irrespective of school bus transport,
carpools, or after-school conflicts.
At the start of each school year, the faculty polls parents and students
about their areas of interest and designs the club program accordingly.
Some recent Club offerings have included:
- Cooking Club
- Sports Club
- Knitting Club
- Game Club
- Music Club
- Jewelry Making Club
- Origami Club
- Drawing Club
- Puzzle Club
- Baton-Twirling Club
Dances
OFS hosts bi-monthly dances for the students. These are held on
Friday evenings, and are tied to seasonal themes—Holiday, Valentine’s
Day, Spring Fling. The students eagerly anticipate the dances—DJs,
special lighting effects, and refreshments make them memorable and festive.
Movie Nights
OFS hosts bi-monthly movie screenings. These are held on Friday
afternoons and are a big hit with the students. The faculty selects
an age-appropriate, recently released movie, sets up a cozy “theatre”
in the Gathering Room, and provides refreshments.
Camp Dark Waters Trip
This is one of the highlights of the OFS School Year. Students,
faculty, and some brave parent volunteers take a camping trip to Camp
Dark Waters in Medford, New Jersey. Students sleep in cabins, and
enjoy a wealth of outdoor activities—canoeing, fishing, hiking, archery,
as well as arts and crafts, science and nature study, recreational games,
and campfire fun.
